Method, licences and limits

Honest about what each value means

Live generation, demand and interconnector flows come from Elexon Insights. Carbon intensity and percentage mix come from the official Carbon Intensity API. Weather observations and site forecasts use Met Office Weather DataHub, while warnings use the official Met Office RSS service. Regional weather is a weighted sample, never a claim that one place represents all of Britain. Renewable and storage asset metadata comes from DESNZ REPD; the locally hosted geographic basemap is public-domain Natural Earth data. Cable paths are indicative joins between documented endpoints, never survey-grade subsea geometry. The private SQLite database and provider credentials never reach the browser.

Why can demand and generation differ?

Feeds use different definitions and timestamps. Embedded generation, station use, storage and losses can create a gap.

Does weather explain a grid change?

Not by itself. The site labels observations and forecasts separately and only describes an association after sufficient recorded history and deterministic evidence checks.

Does an asset marker show live output?

No. Every mapped generation or storage asset is labelled capacity-only. A national technology chart is context, not an allocation to that site.

How does time travel handle gaps?

It selects stored observations only. It never interpolates; unavailable or stale source values are shown plainly.

How is history compressed?

Recent readings remain detailed. Older public charts retain observed hourly or daily records while full-resolution history stays in private SQLite.
